Joseph Pilates


pilates Joseph Pilates was born in Germany in 1880. Suffering from asthma and rheumatic fever as a child, physical activity aimed at a solution to overcome their problems. He studied yoga and Zen Buddhism. During the first world war was sent to England as a nurse.

This period was inspired to develop the method to help their patients who had physical problems. Exercises began to be recognized as if none of the internal technical field training that succumbed to an influenza epidemic that killed thousands of people in other fields of England, in 1918.

Perfected the practice after the war, giving training to the police in Hamburg (Germany), and in 1920 had a structured method. Created a foundation and developed specific equipment.

In 1926, Joseph Pilates migrated to the United States, and was traveling in a ship that met Clara, his wife. Together we took the idea to New York, opening her: The Pilates Studio.

There, Joseph Pilates taught and trained instructors in the Pilates Method on Fitness, also known as Art of Control or Contrologia. Pilates died in 1967, to 87 years.
